In its simplest form, solar technology involves utilizing photovoltaic or solar modules to transform sunlight into DC electricity and then convert it into AC electricity whereupon it can be used to power homes and buildings.

At Solar Volts, our products and services reflect our passion and commitment to clean, renewable energy solutions that best meet the needs of our clients, our families, and our communities.

Whether your project requires roof-mounted panels, building integrated photovoltaic's (BIPV), or off-site, pad-mounted modules, our talented and experienced technicians will handle your projects with the utmost professionalism and expertise.

Grid Tied PV Systems
Grid-tied photovoltaic (PV) systems act in tandem with a building's traditional power supply. Essentially, the solar cells on your roof produce electricity during the day. However, when the sun goes down or is obscured, your home or business can still draw power from the city's electrical grid.

When your PV cells are producing more energy than you are consuming, the excess energy is fed back into the system and you can actually receive credit for the power you are generating—this is known as net-metering.

The nice thing about these systems is that they offer the optimum balance of reliability, affordability and independence. You're able to produce and use your own solar energy while maintaining the peace of mind that comes from the grid.

Grid-Tied PV Systems With Battery Backup
Similar to the traditional grid-tied PV systems, the battery backup systems utilize both your PV array and the municipal power grid. The purpose of the battery back up is to infuse an extra layer of standard protection into the system.

For instance, during a grid power failure, a standard grid-tied system is designed to shut down and disengage from the grid in order to protect utility repair workers from the electricity being emitted from your cells.

Grid-tied systems with battery backup allow you to draw from the stored energy produced from your PV system without endangering others or causing complications with the grid. Such systems are advisable when power outages are common or when grid failures can lead to dangerous or costly situations.

Stand-Alone PV Systems
Unlike the grid-tied systems, stand-alone PV systems (also referred to as off-grid) function entirely independent from the power grid. These systems are generally recommended for homes and buildings that are situated in remote areas where grid service is either unavailable or prohibitively expensive.
